2018 Awards

2018 Awards

We get to work with the most amazing people every day; people like you who care so much for children AND want to do something to make a difference! Each year we are proud to honor our volunteers and community business partners at our annual Light of Hope community impact breakfast.

Courage & Dedication Award

Becci Gurski receives the Courage & Dedication Award.

Becci Gurski receives the Courage & Dedication Award.
This award will be given yearly in memory of Renate G. Justin M.D., to a CASA volunteer who has demonstrated the highest standards in child advocacy, persevered for the best interest of the child, and for their dedication of service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

This year the Courage & Dedication award went to two CASA volunteers. These two CASA volunteers were appointed to one case together due to the severity of the abuse. It was one of the worst cases of abuse in Larimer County’s history. The two individuals worked together with professionals to make sure the kids on the case had a voice in court while they moved from one foster home to another.

Joe Wise receives the Courage & Dedication Award.

These two CASA volunteers – Becci Gurski and Joe Wise – were fortunate to get to see the children adopted last May and November by their forever families! In ten years, Becci has served on seven cases with ten children. Since 2011 when he was sworn in, Joe Wise has served on three cases with seven children. We are proud to celebrate the volunteer work of Becci Gurski and Joe Wise with the Courage & Dedication Award in Memory of Renate G. Justin M.D.

Philanthropist of the Year

Linda LoRusso receives the Philanthropist of the Year award.

After the passing of her husband in 2013, Linda LoRusso and her family established the Nick J. LoRusso Memorial Scholarship fund with the goal of providing for individual and team fees as well as travel expenses and gear to support Colorado youth soccer. She also supports CASA generously with her time, talents, and treasure. Linda’s warm and calm presence along with her friendly smile is always enjoyed when she comes in to support our administrative staff with her expertise in bookkeeping. On behalf of the staff and board, we are proud to honor the generous spirit of Linda LoRusso with the Philanthropist of the Year award.

Business Partner of the Year

IIDA City Center receives their award for Business Partner of the Year.

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Rocky Mountain Chapter City Center has addressed so many maintenance needs at the Harmony House. They have

  • Replaced the dishwasher in the kitchen
  • Updated the front porch with new concrete stairs, a hand rail and new furniture
  • Installed flood lights and security cameras to ensure the safety of children and staff
  • Planted a flower bed and added new brightly colored chairs in the back yard

As if that wasn’t enough, they selected CASA of Larimer County as the recipient of two different event gift card drives. The gift cards were used right away for things like snow boots, coats, backpacks, and school supplies for children in our CASA program. We are proud to partner with IIDA Rocky Mountain Chapter City Center to meet the needs of the children in our Harmony House and CASA programs.
